Texan Spreads Family Tradition with New Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Lawrence

Published: 08 Dec 2014

(Lawrence, KS) Sam Kafoure grew up in Dallas where Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has been a family tradition since 1941.  He knew Dickey’s Barbecue would be a big hit in his new home. On Thursday, December 11 at 11 a.m., Kafoure brings a Texas tradition to Lawrence when he opens his second Dickey’s Barbecue location. To celebrate, he’s hosting a three day grand opening celebration where the first 50 guests receive gift cards worth up to $50.

“I grew up eating Dickey’s Barbecue in Dallas and I knew when I moved to Kansas that Dickey’s family friendly environment and great home cooking would be a natural fit for the area,” said multi-unit owner, Sam Kafoure. “We can’t wait to serve up our slow smoked barbecue to the folks in Lawrence.”

On Friday, the party includes free Dickey’s Barbecue gear like t-shirts, koozies and more. On Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., radio station 92.9 The Bull is onsite providing jams for guests. The new barbecue joint serves up a darn good deal with $2 pulled pork barbecue sandwiches. Partygoers could get lucky when one lucky guest receives a $500 gift card and three guests receive free barbecue for an entire year.

Prior to opening his first Dickey’s Barbecue Pit location in Overland Park in 2009, Kafoure worked for Interstate Brands Corporation, home of Hostess and Wonder Bread. The new Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Lawrence is located at 721 Wakarusa, Suite 104 and the phone number is 785.865.1313.
